Use the diagram of the Celsius thermometers to answer the following:

1a Which thermometer diagram, A, B, C, or D shows is the temperature reading of boiling water?
b What is the temperature of boiling water on a Fahrenheit thermometer scale?

2a Which thermometer diagram, A, B, C, or D shows is the average body temperature reading?
b What is the average body temperature reading on a Fahrenheit thermometer scale?

3a Which thermometer diagram, A, B, C, or D would you guess to be the average thermometer reading for a comfortable room?
b What is the average thermometer reading for a comfortable room on a Fahrenheit thermometer scale?

4a Which thermometer diagram, A, B, C, or D shows the freezing temperature of water?
b What is the freezing point Fahrenheit thermometer scale?

 

Solutions to Exercises

1. Think!
* On the Celsius scale, what is the temperature of boiling water? 100oC
* Which diagram shows the height of the red liquid at 100oC
Answer: Thermometer B shows the the temperature reading of boiling water.

2. Think!
* Thermometer B Reading A on the Celsius scales in the diagram is 1000C, the temperature for boiling water.
* What is the temperature for boiling water on the Fahrenheit scale?
For a temperature of 1000C, the same temperature on a Fahrenheit scale is 2120F.
